Warming hearts, not our oceans
What We Do
Advocating Change
EcoMats Marin, located in the heart of Marin County, is a charitable organization dedicated to helping those in need. With the hard work of our volunteers, we strive to improve the lives of those homeless on the streets, by turning plastic bags destined for the landfill into weatherproof, lightweight, portable sleeping mats which help to keep individuals experiencing homelessness warm.
How You Can Help
There are several ways for you to get involved in our eco-mat making process. You can donate either money or plastic bags which are both instrumental for making eco-mats. If you want to be more directly involved, you can follow our tutorials to learn how to make plarn or eco-mats.

Plastic Bag Donations
Contact us if you have plastic bags you would like to donate. We accept any type of clean plastic bags except for flimsy produce bags. Examples include newspaper bags, Safeway bags, and target bags.

Update 07/23/20: We are currently overrun with plastic bags and not accepting any more donations, aside from newspaper bags. However, we will graciously accept any Plarn you wish to make. Please check back with the website periodically for updates on our plastic bag needs.
Following our video tutorials, you can help with making plarn and eco-mats.
We always need more plarn and it is relatively easy and quick to make. Eco-mats are a lot more time consuming and require more resources, but don't let that scare you off if you're interested. We're here to help :)Â
If making plarn is more your speed, we're happy to accept any and all plarn donations. Having ready to go plarn instead of just plastic bags really speeds up the mat making process for us!
How to Make Plarn (Plastic-Yarn)
You will need: plastic bags and scissors.
